NAMPA — Cody Hardy of Nampa was killed early Friday morning when he lost control of his dirt bike and crashed.
The 29-year-old father of three suffered neck, spine and chest injuries from what a family statement described as a "freak motorcycle accident."
The statement, prepared by Hardy's aunt, Betty Adams Aitchison, called Hardy a "highly skilled cyclist" and painted a portrait of him as an avid outdoorsman and loving family man with a passion for fun and a penchant for selfless generosity.
Idaho State Trooper Scott Tulleners, who responded to the accident at about 12:15 a.m., said several of Hardy's friends witnessed the crash. They were reportedly watching him ride his Suzuki bike near a friend's house on West Blueberry Avenue in Nampa when he lost control of the cycle.
The trooper said paramedics were already on the scene when police arrived. Hardy was taken to Mercy Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. He was not wearing a helmet, Tulleners said.
Born and raised in Canyon County, Hardy attended Middleton High School and married his childhood sweetheart, Kristy Fox, in January 1997. He worked in his family's heating and cooling business for many years before co-founding the successful Hardy Brothers Heating and Cooling with his brother, Sean, five years ago.
Dana Hardy described her brother as a "very hard worker" and much more.
"He was a wonderful brother and an amazing father to his children," she said.
Aitchison's statement praised the love and devotion Hardy showed for his family, which consisted of his wife and three children, sons Tyler, 8, and Trevor, 2, and daughter Katie, 6.
Hardy, who family friend Autumn Short described as a "cowboy," even designed and built an elaborate backyard play area for his kids and neighborhood children to enjoy. The family said he enjoyed close relationships with both of his sisters, Dana and Christie Lynn and his brother and co-worker, Sean, as well as his parents and extended family.
"Life, to some extent, will go on," the family's statement said. "But, not without us missing Cody's sparkling smile, wry sense of humor and his always-extended 'helping hand.'"
"We will see Cody's eyes in the eyes of his children and will look for his gentle sensitive spirit shining through their very being."

Thanks Cody. We look forward to meeting you again.
